ATV 2.4GHz (Ham radio)

ATV 2.4GHz

During my experimentation about little rocket I was lead to his solution of ATV at 2.4GHZ in FM (Better solution under QRM due to rocket rotation). I also used COMTECH parts, LITTLE version available at infracom.

I use the more little TX chain that gives me about 2km : ComTxI24Mini+Ampli 500mW + ComRx24Mini...And it seems to work very well...

Since there are a lot of explainations about such part on the web I won't copy them there, but after the rocket lands, softely, I will give you the PIC code that will allow us to expand the number of canal, since we just have to deal with the PLL.

For the moment, here is some pics of the emitter in the :

And the reception part with it's Tbox antenna (see Antenna part on this site) ::

Here is the complete shuttle : pitot, static and dynamic pressure measurement, accelerometers, microcontroller board (68HC11 based) and RAM, video camera, transmitter and amplifier, alimentation and battery, timer for the door openning (the whole think was realised with Winnie and Mutē).

The fligth was nominal this summer in Millau, and more precisely on the Plateau du Larzac. Soon, the report will be available there, but for the moment we give you the film of the flight. You can notice that there is only the ascendant part, but the amplifier gos wrong on the top, and we do not know why for now.

On THIS FILM (3,7Mo) you may not really understand what you should see. Actually, you need to know that the cmera is in the shuttle and make a 90°angle with it's axe. In the first part of the film, nothing move; the shuttle is in its slope and we see its shadow and a rope that maintains it. Then the shuttle fligth and start going round and round. We can measure the rotating speed by looking for the sun that comes and goes in the picture.

You may need the windows media player pluggin : DivX 5.02 (3Mo)

Before the report, here is a summary (PDF).
